Can I book a cottage for a creative retreat?

Yes. Both cottages offer a private place for your own writing, reading or creative work, with sea views, well-stocked bookshelves and very fast internet. You set your own pace: we do not run courses or provide a tutor or art studio.

Space for writing, drawing and reading

The cottages have space for writing and drawing, with sea views and the coast nearby.

You don’t need to bring a project. Both houses have a well-stocked library, and neither has a TV. They’re lovely places to read, think or just have a break. You can come on your own or share a cottage and do different things during the day.

Choosing a cottage for your stay

The Cottage is newly renovated, simple, cosy and practical. It has a comfortable living room, a kitchen, a king-size main bedroom and a bunk room. The Farmhouse is cosy, comfortable and spacious, with a dining kitchen, a king-size main bedroom and a twin room.

The Cottage sleeps up to 2 adults and 2 children aged 14 or under; The Farmhouse sleeps up to four guests. Both have sea views and very fast internet with Wi-Fi. We’re happy to discuss desk space, room arrangements and the materials you would like to bring before you book.

Corporate stays and working from Rousay

We welcome corporate stays in both cottages. Very fast internet with Wi-Fi makes it easy to stay connected when you need to work during your visit.

You’ll have your own kitchen and living room, and plenty to do on the island when work is finished. We’re happy to talk about dates and what you need through either cottage’s Airbnb listing.

Walks, beaches and ancient sites

When you fancy a break, there are walks, beaches and ancient sites to explore. Our Rousay island map and walking guide have plenty of ideas for an afternoon out.

You’ll be staying on our working farm, with sheep in the fields and the usual farm activity going on around you.

Travel and cottage details

Our travel pages explain how to get to Orkney and on to Rousay.

Summer has long evenings for getting outside. Winter gives you more time indoors, and we offer stays of up to one month, with dates agreed with us.

One well-behaved dog is welcome per cottage, kept on a lead around the farm. A dog cleaning fee applies. Neither has an enclosed outdoor space. The Cottage has three internal steps and The Farmhouse has a couple of outside steps. We’re happy to explain the layouts and access in more detail.
